Kiersten Cherry

Acrylic and Ink on Canvas

If Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), Edvard Munch, and Alphonse Mucha spent the evening chatting at Hokusai's garden party they would probably conjure images like Kiersten Cherry's acrylic and ink characters. Her characters maintain a surface innocence that belies our uneasy suspicion that all is not quite what it appears to be.

Cherry shapes and molds classic childhood fairy tale dreamers into a modern, twisted but ultimately calming reality: an introspective stroll down memory lane - where the lights go out as you pass them. Cherry illuminates the canvas with her signature robust colors and intense dimensional blacks. She enlivens her images with vivid shadows (metaphorically and otherwise).

Cherry, the 28 year old "Mistress of the Acrylics," has made art since the age of nine. Based in Los Angeles, she studied illustration and free lance art at the Art Center and City College in Pasadena. In 2007, she apprenticed to a well known tattoo artist: adapting art to skin and embracing creativity in a new arena. and are the second public exhibition of Kiersten Cherry’s work. In 2006 she participated in an exhibit at the Hive Gallery in downtown Los Angeles. That well received exhibit established her as an emerging artist whose work will be in demand.
